This Iced Matcha Latte tastes just like the one at Starbucks, made with matcha green tea powder, milk and simple syrup poured over ice!
Ingredients and substitutions
- Simple syrup – use any store-bought or homemade sweetener of your choice.
- Matcha green tea powder – I recommend using a high-quality ceremonial matcha powder.
- Milk – any dairy or non-dairy milk will work here.
- Sugar – honey, agave nectar or maple syrup can also be used to make the simple syrup.
How to make an iced matcha latte
- Make the simple syrup.
- Add everything to a cocktail shaker.
- Put ice in a tall glass.
- Pour the latte over ice and enjoy!
Where to buy matcha powder
Since matcha powder has become so popular, it's become more readily available for purchase. You should be able to find a matcha powder at any local grocery store, international supermarkets, online retailers (i.e. Amazon, specialty matcha retailers) or at various tea shops, such as DAVIDsTEA.
When shopping for a matcha powder, make sure to look for a high-quality, ceremonial grade matcha. Ceremonial grade matcha uses younger tea leaves, which will make your drink smoother and creamier. The alternative option, culinary grade matcha, is perfect for baking.

Frequently Asked Questions
This iced matcha latte is super simple – in fact, you only need four ingredients: simple syrup, matcha green tea powder, milk and ice. If you don’t have a big sweet tooth, you can even leave out the simple syrup entirely.
You can use any variety of dairy or non-dairy milk for this iced matcha latte. If you want to make this drink super healthy and cut down on calories, a non-dairy milk like coconut milk or almond milk would be a good choice.
Iced matcha lattes offer a lot of health benefits when compared to other caffeinated drinks. They’re rich in antioxidants and are a great energy booster when you need an afternoon pick-me-up. If you've ever experienced the jitters from too much coffee, iced matcha lattes are perfect for you. Besides being an energy booster, matcha lattes detoxify and calm the body while also boosting concentration.
My recipe only has 158 calories per drink, whereas the Starbucks version has about 200 calories for a grande size. If you decide to use a non-dairy milk like coconut milk or almond milk, you’ll be shaving off even more calories!
Storing the simple syrup
Simple syrup can be used for lots of things and it’s so easy to make at home – all you need is boiling water and sugar or another sweetener of your choice. You can store it in the mason jar for up to 1 month to use for your iced matcha lattes or other recipes that require simple syrup.
