What to make with chickpeas
These air fryer chickpeas make a great snack on your own, but there are tons of other ways you can use them for a main dish. Here are some ideas on how to serve them:
- In a salad – Sprinkle them over top of a salad for some extra crunch or use them in place of chicken for a plant-based protein option, like in my Chili’s Santa Fe Salad.
- In a buddle bowl – On their own or with other plant-based protein options. These buddha bowls are super customizable!
- In a wrap – Substitute the chicken for crispy chickpeas in my homemade shawarma wraps or make your own using your favourite veggies and spreads.
Frequently Asked Questions
Don’t worry if you hear a popping noise while your air fryer chickpeas are cooking – that’s perfectly normally. It’s similar to when you’re making popcorn and you hear the kernels pop!
The air fryer is a great way to ensure that your chickpeas get nice and crispy. With most roasted chickpea recipes, you need to dry the chickpeas before cooking them, but when you use the air fryer, that step is eliminated! That being said, you can also pat-dry the chickpeas with paper towel if you so choose.
For this roasted chickpeas air fryer recipe, you’ll need to cook the chickpeas for 15 minutes at 400° Fahrenheit, shaking the basket halfway through.
These air fryer chickpeas are super healthy. They’re a great source of plant-based protein in addition to being a great source of nutrients and fibre.
Storing roasted chickpeas
Store these air fryer chickpeas in a Ziploc bag or airtight glass container for up to 7 days. I like to make a big batch and keep them around for snacking or for a salad topper! There’s no need to stick them in the fridge – you can just leave them out on the counter at room temperature.
Freezing this recipe
You can try freezing this roasted chickpeas air fryer recipe, but they likely won’t have the same texture after being frozen and defrosted. I’d recommend just making them from scratch for the best results.
