Ingredients and substitutions
- Russet potatoes – you can technically use any kind of potato for this recipe, but I find that russet potatoes are best for baked potatoes.
- Cooking spray – you’ll need this to spray the cooking basket.
- Salt & pepper – to taste.
- Butter – or a butter substitute of your choice.
- Grated cheddar cheese – swap out for another cheese of your choice like Monterey Jack or a Tex Mex blend.
- Turkey bacon – you can use regular bacon, but it will increase the calorie count.
- Sour cream – use low-fat sour cream or plain Greek yogurt for a healthier option.
- Green onion – chives would also be good here.

Frequently Asked Questions
A potato will take 30 minutes to bake in the air fryer at 400° Fahrenheit. Make sure to flip the potatoes halfway through so they cook evenly!
No, you don’t need to pierce the potatoes before cooking them in the air fryer. You can if you want, but it really just comes down to a matter of preference.
When you bake your potatoes in the oven, there’s always a risk that they won’t turn out as crispy as you’d like them to be. By cooking them in the air fryer, they’ll turn out perfectly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside.
Storing and reheating
Store your baked potatoes without any of the toppings for up to 5 days. The best way to reheat them is to pop them back in the air fryer for a few minutes or reheat them in the oven at 350° Fahrenheit.
Can you freeze baked potatoes?
Yes! You can definitely freeze baked potatoes to use for later. Let them flash freeze for about an hour first on a tray so that they don’t stick together, then store them in an airtight container or Ziploc bag for up to 3 months.
When you’re ready to enjoy, you can cook them right from frozen either in the air fryer or in the oven. Add on your favourite toppings then dig in!
