- 2 espresso shots
- 3/4 cup milk can be dairy or non-dairy; I prefer 2% milk
- 1 cup ice cubes
- 1 tbsp simple syrup optional
For simple syrup
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup boiling water
Prepare in advance: Boil water in a kettle, and add sugar to a mason jar. Pour boiling water over sugar, mixing to combine. Let cool at least 30 minutes before using.
Brew your espresso shots in your espresso machine. Add ice to a highball glass, add simple syrup if desired, then pour milk overtop (starting with 1/2 cup). Finish with the espresso shot and stir.
Adjust the sweetness and milk according to your tastes. I always start with less and add more if I need to. Enjoy!
Use espresso, strong brewed coffee or instant espresso powder.
Swap 2% milk with oat, almond or soy milk for a dairy-free version.
Adjust sweetness with more or less simple syrup based on your taste.
Store leftover simple syrup in the fridge for up to 2 weeks.
Make the espresso and syrup ahead so you can assemble quickly in the morning.
