Tips for making freezer meals
Make dump dinners
One of my fave ways to make freezer meals is to assemble all of your ingredients in a freezer bag and then dump and cook when ready to serve. Curries, soups, stews, pastas and certain types of stir fries make for great freezer dump dinners. You can cook your freezer meals in a pot on the stove, in the Instant Pot or a Crockpot so you have plenty of options for cooking your ingredients after they've been frozen.
Freeze ingredients separately
Another good strategy for freezer cooking is by freezing ingredients separately to ensure they retain the same taste and texture. You can freeze chicken/steak/shrimp right in a marinade, then freeze some cooked rice and veggies in separate packages. Sauces can also be frozen for future use, and you can even make up components of meals like meatballs and burger patties to freeze.
When in doubt, make soup!
If you're looking to cook a full meal and then freeze it, soups and pastas are always a safe bet, along with some rice dishes. You can freeze a cooked meal up to 3 months and then either defrost in the fridge overnight before reheating, or in some cases you can reheat from frozen for 5-10 minutes in the microwave. Another great way to reheat freezer meals is by freezing in foil containers and reheating in the oven.
