Deep Dish Smarties Treatzza Pizza
This Deep Dish Smarties Treatzza Pizza is drizzled with chocolate & perfect for that next summer party – if you don't eat it all in one sitting first!
It's my birthday a week today!!! Ahh, 25 years old – believe it or not, I'll be a quarter of a century and officially in my mid-twenties! I always used to think that 25 was when shit got real – you'd have a real job, you'd be done school, you'd be living as an independent adult. At least some of those things are true for me today! Birthdays are always a time of year when I sit back and reflect on how far I've come, look at the goals I've achieved and relive some of the memories of the past year.
I have to say that 24 was the year of change and difficult yet rewarding decisions. I moved cities, I finally finished my thesis and my Master's degree, I grew this blog from a sometimes-money-earning hobby to a full-blown freelance business (you can see my income reports here!) and I really reconnected with my friends and family in such an amazing way. When I had to move from Toronto to Hamilton in the winter, I thought it would be a tough transition from city living to life in the suburbs, and I had also recently gone through a breakup around the same time as the loss of a really close friendship. I was super lonely.
At the time I was honestly a bit worried as to how I would survive everything, but I did it with the love and support of some other really close friends who helped me rebuild things and change my perspective. We continued to go out and have fun, not letting my move disrupt the good times – with a few sleepovers in Toronto, fun day trips here and there, and more than a few bottles of wine and good food between us, I learned who is really there for me in my life, and I'm so happy all of my friends have made more of an effort than ever to be in my life despite living an hour away from them.
I've even made a couple new friends as well – do you know how hard it is to forge new friendships in your mid-twenties?! I feel so so grateful for everything that happened this year, even if some of the events that unfolded hugely affected my lifestyle and were unexpected. Just goes to show you that everything always works itself out in the end and you can rediscover happiness in the most shockingly beautiful ways!
Anyways, this Deep Dish Smarties Treatzza Pizza though. I swear, I'm getting to that. 😉
When I was a kid, Smarties Treatzza Pizza was literally the only kind of cake I liked. For my birthday especially, I would accept nothing less (I promise, I'm not THAT much of a brat lol). I mean those Dairy Queen Treatzza Pizzas were amazing – the crunchy Oreo cookie crust, the classic DQ soft serve and the smarties, caramel and chocolate shell drizzled overtop…thinking about them now really makes me so nostalgic for my childhood. These cakes really represented such a simple time in my life before everything got so complicated. Funny how our conceptions of adulthood work right?
Well, everything has worked out. I may not have it all together just yet, but I think I'm finding my way in the world of food photography and freelance writing and I have the freedom to choose my own schedule everyday. And the ultimate beauty of it all is that I'm my own boss. How many people get to say that at 25 they are a small business owner and work for themselves? I'm just gonna sit here and wait for the checks to pour in now while I stuff my face with this Treatzza Pizza. *LOL yeah right…*
But seriously though, will you be trying my all-time favourite Deep Dish Smarties Treatzza Pizza recipe? Let me know in the comments or on Instagram, Twitter or Facebook if you make this delicious monstrosity – it's totally worth the little bit of effort! 😀
Deep Dish Smarties Treatzza Pizza
- 2 cups Oreo cookie crumbs I found mine in the bakery isle of the grocery store!
- 2/3 cup melted butter
- Ice cream
- Chocolate syrup
- Caramel syrup
- 1-2 boxes of Smarties
- Mix Oreo cookie crumbs with melted butter, then press into a well-greased 9-inch cake pan. Press down hard with your hands to ensure crust doesn't crumble.
- Melt ice cream for 10-20 seconds if necessary in microwave safe bowl then spread overtop of crust.
- Put in the freezer and freeze until solid, then drizzle with chocolate and caramel sauce.
- Chop up Smarties and sprinkle them overtop of the cake, then freeze until ready to serve!
But for real, you know the hardest part will be not eating this Treatzza Pizza all in one sitting, right?
