This policy may change from time to time by updates to this page. You should check to ensure that you are happy with any changes. This policy is effective from January 2016.
Whenever you sign up for my newsletter or complete a reader survey, I collect data on your entry and use it to generate content that is more useful for this website. You yourself have the option give as much information that you are comfortable sharing should you choose to sign up, such as your first and/or last name and email address. You may unsubscribe from my newsletters at any time.
I also use Google Analytics Demographics to collect data about those who visit this website, and this data may be cited in media kits. I do not have personally identifiable information on any one individual as a result of this data collection. In other words, you are still searching this website anonymously.
Controlling your personal information
You may choose to restrict the collection or use of your personal information in the following ways:
- whenever you are asked to fill in a form on the website, look for the box that you can click to indicate that you do not want the information to be used by anybody for direct marketing purposes
- if you have previously agreed to using your personal information for direct marketing purposes, you may change your mind at any time by contacting me.
I will not sell, distribute or lease your personal information to third parties unless I have your permission or are required by law to do so. I may use your personal information to send you promotional information about third parties which I think you may find interesting if you tell me that you wish this to happen.
I run Gourmet Ads and their primary ad server is Appnexus. You can opt out of cookies from them by visiting: http://appnexus.com/platform-policy#choices and Opting Out.
You can also opt out of cookies using the Network Advertising Initiative opt-out page at this page:
Finally, you can choose to disable or selectively turn off cookies or third-party cookies in your browser settings.
Occasionally I may include or offer third party products or services on The Girl on Bloor – mostly those as listed on my blogger resources page or products that I find to be of assistance when creating a recipe. These third party sites have separate and independent privacy policies from mine, and there I take no responsibility on behalf of their content.
Links to other websites
My website may contain links to other websites of interest. However, once you have used these links to leave my site, you should note that I do not have any control over that other website. Therefore, I cannot be responsible for the protection and privacy of any information which you provide while visiting such sites and such sites are not governed by this privacy statement. You should exercise caution and look at the privacy statement applicable to the website in question.
Occasionally I may also feature sponsored content, which will be identifiable by a small disclaimer in italics at the bottom of our website. If a post is sponsored, you shall assume that I was either offered compensation in exchange for a post, or received free goods while completing a post. The compensation will not affect the quality of my content, and I only complete sponsored posts when I feel passionate about the product/brand involved.
While I strive to include all Girl on Bloor readers, I can only offer contests to Canadian readers, with the exception of Quebec. This province unfortunately has a different policy than the rest of the country and I am unable to offer those readers prizes. Often, a prize pack may only be available locally in Ontario or even just the Greater Toronto Area. I strive to identify specifically where contest winners should reside for every contest but sometimes I may fail to mention some that seem obvious. Winners are chosen at random, and will win given that they follow all contest rules.
By using this website, you consent to this disclaimer/policy policy.
